“Climate Porn”

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I’ve written about my views on the current “crisis” due to global warming and anyone who has entered into a coversation about this topic with me knows where I stand. I think the science surrounding this impending doom is one sided and erroneous.

We’re getting it from all sides with this issue. From celebrities driving around in a Toyota Prius to Gov. Arnold getting rid of his Hummer fleet we’re constantly hearing from Hollywood, top scientists, and the climate alarmists that the world will end and it’s all our faults. Especially George W. Bush! Did you know that HE orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and used a weather machine he bought on ebay to cause Katrina?!?

Anyways, my brother and fellow PEZhead, Steve, sent me this article that I think every American should read. It is from a speech delivered on the senate floor by Senator James Inhofe, Chairman, Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. This is a man who has taken much time to study the issue and he presents an interesting angle.

Bear in mind that this article is not going into the scientific debate of global climate change. It is more addressing the media’s fascination with the topic…something he called “Climate Porn.”

HOT & COLD MEDIA SPIN CYCLE: A CHALLENGE TO JOURNALISTS WHO COVER GLOBAL WARMING

Why can’t the British mind their own business?

Monday, September 11th, 2006

I’ll keep this short.

The Brits need to stay out of our politics!! A few months ago when the immigration issue was at its hottest it was a British dude who took the initiative and decided to write a spanish version of the national anthem.

Now we have another British group who decides to make a movie about President Bush being assasinated. This is one thing but the movie is supposed to portray America after the assasination. What the hell do the Brits know about America and how we would react to our Presidents death.

You guys need to take your stupid accent and bad teeth back to your side of the Atlantic and leave us alone.

Now Introducing…the Lightning II

JSF

When I worked as an engineering intern at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control I had the pleasure of working on the Joint Strike Fighter. This is the newest and probably last manned fight jet to be produced by the US Military.

Lockheed beat out Boeing for the multi-year, multi-billion dollar contract. The competition was outlined in a NOVA episode entitled “The Battle of the X-Planes” which I found to be a fascinating look at the world of defense contractors and how the business is run. Lockheed presented the JSF, then designated as X-35 and Boeing had their X-32. Their designs were drastically different. Boeing went for a delta (triangular) airframe design while Lockheed adapted their airframe from the wildly successful F-22 Raptor.

The JSF was to have certain characteristics to set it apart from other aircraft. Some of these features included stealth capabilities and the ability to have varients of the aircraft including one that can perform vertical takeoffs and landings. It all makes for a really cool aircraft.

Well, in July the JSF was finally inaugurated and officially renamed as the F-35 Lightning II. I’m not crazy about the name but it does pay homage to a vintage WWII fighter developed by Lockheed and another fighter, also called the Lightning which was developed by BAE, Lockheed’s major partner in this endeavor.

Between the F-35 and the new Orion (next generation space vehicle) that Lockheed was just awarded I think my company is doing quite well…
